What am I to do, when I'm in a foreign land where driving etiquette is different from what I'm used to? Driving in a foreign land can be overwhelming at times especially when I don't do my homework ahead of time prior to getting a rental car.
Here are a few ideas to put into practice when there is a need for me to drive in a foreign country:
1) Since many countries have different driving rules, if possible, obtain a copy of the foreign country's rules before I begin driving in that foreign country.
2) I won't drive when I'm tired and try to avoid night travel.
3) Some countries require road permits instead of tolls, to use on their divided highways. They will fine those found driving without a permit.
4) I will always buckle up. Some countries have penalties for people who violate this law.
5) Many countries require that I sound the horn before going around a corner or to flash the lights before passing.
6) Before I start my journey, I better know who has the right-of-way in a roundabout.
7) If I rent a car, I better make sure that I have appropriate insurance.
8) If drivers in the hosting country drive on the opposite side of the road, it may be prudent for me to practice driving in a less populated area before attempting to drive in heavy traffic.
9) I will make sure that I know the routes ahead of time and have a good road map and to chart my course before beginning.
10) I need to be familiar with warning signs and laws.
11) I will keep my driving speed low.
Happy travelling and driving in any country you might be visiting........Peace and God Bless.....
